The Golden Age of Propaganda
How British Intelligence Framed Julian Assange As Russian Agent
13 years ago, Industrial Swamp non-fiction television, aka me, recorded Robert W. McChesney and John Nichols during their book tour for THE DEATH AND LIFE OF AMERICAN JOURNALISM: The Media Revolution that will Begin the World Again (Nation Books; January 5, 2010).
While McChesney and Nichols, nearly 14 years ago, correctly identified the vanishing state of the professional journalism, their optimism for a new beginning of more reporting and less messaging seems to have been off target.
Ironically, as I recall, the solution Nichols and McChesney seemed to be suggesting, was a government-funded information system that would somehow replace the outdated advertiser and subscriber supported print and broadcast media.
As Kit Klarenberg clearly shows in his recent piece on the Assange case, a government-funded information system is what we got now, and it ain’t good.
